Chance Da Rapper by Raynah Robinson in F.E.D.S. Magazine

You don't know who's the youngest rapper on Forbes '30 Under 30' list? Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, 23 from Chicago, Illinois. Chancelor, better known as Chance the Rapper music style is described as vibrant rhymes on jazzy retro beats. He is widely known for sending a clear strong message to his audience, “If nobody talks about it nobody gets it done” (Billboard).
Let me take you back to 2012 when Chance dropped his highly anticipated mixtape #10 Day. One of his hits from the 2012 mixtape ‘Noglastic’ gave Chance the opportunity to share details of his life. He's not afraid to get intimate. Chance’s manager Pat Corcoran, 23 says “me and Chance always had a hard chip on our shoulder...we can do this and it doesn’t take much, just don’t be an idiot”(Billboard). Chance then kicked off the year with several radio appearances including Chicago's WGCI and POWER92 for hit tracks "Juke Juke" and "Hey Ma" also from his mixtape #10Day. These songs show the versatility in conveying a message to his audience.  To wrap up his year Glover, Childish Gambino invited Chance to his tour of America as opening act. Gambino says in a interview with XXL “Chance is easy to make songs with because he’s talented and fun to be around it’s like hanging with your little cousin”. Having a strong stage presence, a strong voice and being overall dope to be around we can definitely see a bright future for Chance.
In 2013, Chance had all the major labels chasing him: Columbia, Republic, Def Jam, Atlantic,Interscope, Shady and Capital. Chance is definitely a strong force in the game right now
he is a force to be reckoned with! He knows and understands the importance of branding and it is highly unlikely that he will be signing to any labels.“Label deals suck, that’s just the truth of it,” Chance explains. “People believe you have to be discovered by a higher power, who hires you and takes a percentage, but in reality, you have to garner a fan base on your own.” (in DjBooth.et interview). With the anticipation of labels reaching out to Chance, he focused on his music and released the best mixtape of 2013 “Acid Rap”. When Acid Rap dropped it captivated the world and was downloaded some of 50,000 times the same night.
Chance has always been seen as a underground rapper, never compared to a mainstream artist yet has been featured on Billboard, XXl, and Hot New Hip Hop since 2012. In 2016, Chance released the highly anticipated album ‘Coloring Book’ with features from Kayne West, Lil B, and Lil Yachty and more. Young Thug compared Chance to Prince (on hotnewhiphop) “Chance the Rapper is gonna die a slept-on legend, just like prince” Although one may not go as far to compare the Chicago based rapper to the late great Prince, we can expect to see him on a larger platform in the next few years.
