The Story of Charles Fields” by Canden Robinson in F.E.D.S. Magazine

San Antonio Double Murder Case “Charles Fields”
A Texas man by the name of Charles Fields was arrested early August 2015. Fields is a 19-year-old African American male, residing in the city of San Antonio. Police arrested Fields in connection with the death of Elliot Hudson. Hudson’s body was found shot to death in a vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of a local San Antonio Motel 6. According to police records, Charles Fields shot and killed Elliot Hudson during a drug deal that went wrong.

Fields was supposed to meet up with the victim, Elliot Hudson, to make a transaction between marijuana and cash. Fields decided to take it all and get away, shooting Elliot Hudson in his car before ever letting him get out. There was another male occupant in the vehicle who was very helpful with the police. The witness told police that he heard four shots and saw Hudson slumped over the steering wheel. That’s when he climbed over Hudson and drove him to a nearby hospital where he died on arrival.

Charles Fields admitted to being at the Motel 6 on the night Hudson was killed. He just says that he blacked out and doesn’t remember what happened. He also stated that he did not know the other guys that were in the car with him at the Motel 6. On July 18, 2015, before Fields was arrested, he posted on Facebook about something bad he did. He did not mention exactly what he did, however he did let the world know that he did something wrong. Fields Facebook post stated, “Now I den sum fucced up shit, I ain’t gone lie, but I’m trilla then a bitch and you can’t even lie” (Charles Fields, 2015). This Facebook post was posted in early July, around the same time Elliot Hudson was killed and around the same time a man named Jonathan Hernandez body was found.

Police suspect Fields to be involved in the death of 20-year-old Jonathan Hernandez. Hernandez’s body was found under a home, which was a site for construction workers. The construction workers entered the home and knew something was wrong right away because of the extremely foul odor and trail of blood leading to the body of Jonathan Hernandez. Hernandez was found shot to death and wrapped up in a sheet. Even though police believed Charles Fields to be the killer in the Hernandez case, they did not have enough evidence at the time to charge him. So, Fields was not charged with that homicide at the time of his arrest.

Then the police got a break, they got the call they waited nine long months for, a call from the San Antonio crime lab. The crime lab told detectives that the DNA found on the partial marijuana joint found in Hernandez’s car matched the DNA of Charles Fields. Fields was taken from the correctional facility in which he was currently being held and brought back to court to be charged with the murder of Jonathan Hernandez.

What is so touching about the Hernandez case is the fact that when the story aired on the news, his father saw the airing and called in explaining that there was a possibility that the man found dead and wrapped in a sheet was his son. The father explained that his son had been missing for a few days and he hasn’t seen or heard from him. The father also stated that the last time he saw his son, he told him the he was going to purchase a handgun from a man who posted a handgun for sale ad on Facebook. That was several days earlier before Hernandez body was discovered. In addition, the Facebook for sale post on the handgun was a post made from Charles Fields.

Fields is currently incarcerated at the Bexar County jail in San Antonio Texas. He is currently awaiting trial for both murders of Elliot Hudson and Jonathan Hernandez. He does have a bond set in the amount of $100,000. The Fields family and the Hernandez family have gone back and forth with one another in Facebook posts for a while. The Hernandez family says that the Fields family were bragging in Facebook posts about killing their loved one. In this case, it’s only a matter of justice for the Hernandez and Hudson families. As Charles Fields continues to sit in jail, the families of the victims continue to wait for a trial and for the day that they receive justice.
