The Story of ALPO by Vince Evans in F.E.D.S. Magazine

"When I come home I'm still Gonna be the King" (killer Cam as Alpo in the movie paid in full). Now that Alpo is a free man, is it Welcome home or not?
For the last 4 decades the name Alpo has been on the forefront of public attention, rather it be for his reputation as a rich young murderous drug kingpin from Harlem, him killing his best friend Rich Porter, for becoming a government informant, or having a hit movie made about  him and his friends life. Now Albert Geddis Martinez, better known as Alpo has the streets buzzing yet again with the news of him being back on the streets  after serving a sentence of 35 years in federal prison. For the past 5 years rumors have been circulating about Alpo being out and living in witness protection  but was never confirmed, but earlier this year Alpo has made his freedom known to the world via social media with a recent picture with his son leaving the world with the "oh shit" effect as we all wonder what his next move will be.

In 1993 Alpo was convicted  of the federal kingpin charge of controlling a continuing criminal enterprise for his role in trafficking and wholesaling large amounts of cocaine between Harlem, D.C and Virginia  along with 14 murders that he committed or ordered on his climb to the to the top. This Charge carried a sentence of Capitol punishment, death by lethal injection, a sentence he avoided by cooperating with the federal government and testifying against other famous killers and drug dealers in his organization, most notably his one time partner and friend Wayne Perry. In the end Alpo received a sentence of 35 years in maximum security  federal prison, now in 2017  Alpo is officially free but was 20 plus years in prison enough time to heal all the wounds he left open before he left?
Before he got locked up Alpo caused a lot of waves in the streets, will he be able to right his wrongs or has too much damage been done?  His freedom is raising a lot of questions like will he be welcome back to Harlem after killing his freind Rich Porter, will he be respected after snitching, will he be able to start his life over on the right path or will his past catch up to him. The biggest question when he was in prison was will he go into hiding when he gets out or will he boldly return and face the music- his signature wide smile posted all over the world wide web answered that question, only time will tell for the rest of the questions.
Regardless of the negative things we may hear, there is still a lot of good things said about Alpo as he left a legacy of being a good dude always showing love, being generous, having fun, and making sure everybody enjoyed themselves too, among a lot of other good qualities that once made him a king in the streets. There are still a lot of Alpo supporters that would probably welcome him back with open arms and look beyond his past afflictions. Through out the years even the entertainment world took part in glorifying and imitating his lifestyle when he was on top so he might have a place in the entertainment industry. With this era of the streets being distorted and far more watered down than how things used to be when Po was on top, the streets just might embrace him with a forgiving attitude. Alpo still has a lot of influence and can use it for good like teaching the youth of this generation to avoid his old lifestyle like his old freind Azie Faison has been doing.  There are still a lot of positive possibilities for him.
Is the world ready for Alpo again? That remains to be seen as one of Harlem's former Kings returns to the pavement.
